I have used the Demo version on my Xp station and I suppose I understand some things not correctly,
(1) I see a sine wave of appox 800mV and I can ajust the frequency and everything no problem however my question is this the highest output level voltage from the sound cards in general.

(2) is it possible to generate a square wave or saw tooth signal
I want to have a square wave as the ouput signal.

(3) if this is the highest output level could I use some amplifier to give me a higher voltage level ,I mostly need signals between 0 and 5 volt.

Thank you very much
Peter

1.) Max. output level depends on the individiual sound card. Outputs are meant to be connected to sound systems. An amplitude higer than 1Vss is not likely to be produced from a soundcard. External amplifiers are needed for higher output levels.

2.) AudioWave can calculate triangular and rectangular waves, but...
Remember that frequency range of sound card is physically limited (to approx. 20 kHz). So this option can work properly for low frequencies only. The higher the output frequency rises, the output signal will be distorted as a result of the limited soundcard bandwith. For 10kHz for example a correctly calculated rectangle signal will likely be produced as sine signal through the soundcard low pass filter behavior.

3.) Think about any kind of audio (power) amplifiers or self made OP amplifier circuits.

4.) AudioWave 2.0 works with Vista.

Abacom

Thank you I will order audiowave from your web page as I do not need squarewaves higher than about 5Khz for testing my applications.
I found some amplifier circuits with opamps i will construct one to use with my Audiwave.
